Simple Ways to Add Protein to your Diet and Stay Healthy

Eating the right kinds of food in a balanced diet is a great way to improve your health and feel better. That said, a healthy diet might look different based on what you’re looking to do, whether it’s gaining muscle, losing fat, or just a way to eat healthier in general.

But whatever it is you’re looking for, taking in more protein, such as through protein powder and snacks, is always helpful no matter what your goal is. So with that in mind, here’s a short guide on simple and clever ways you can get more protein into your diet and stay healthy.

Adding protein to recipes

For those who are food & fitness aficionados in equal measure, you’ll be able to whip up some pretty unique ways to up your protein intake, letting you top up throughout the day or recover after a workout in what would certainly be a little more interesting and exotic than a standard protein shake.

For example, some of the protein-infused treats you make could range from brownies to pancakes, and even to pizzas! All you need to do is add a scoop of pea protein to an existing recipe, or replace a small amount of the flour with pea protein. Just make sure to add a little extra moisture if necessary to ensure the consistency stays the same.

Change up your breakfast routine

Starting your day off right can be a great motivational booster for the rest of the day, and leave you feeling refreshed and energetic as the day goes on.  And the first thing that should always start off a good morning is a good breakfast. Especially seeing as your body has gone through the last eight hours or so asleep without any calories coming in.

But what if you’re not a fan of cereal, toast isn’t really your thing, and you don’t have much time in the mornings to prepare a fry up breakfast?

Instead, you could try putting a few handfuls of your favourite fruit in a blender along with a splash of milk and a scoop of protein powder. You’ll be left with a delicious, nutritious and very healthy breakfast smoothie. If you want to really push the boat out, you can get even more protein into the smoothie as well as thicken it up and add extra taste by adding in a spoonful of greek yoghurt.

Eat less, frequently, rather than more, less often.

Keeping your body topped up with vitamins and nutrients throughout the whole day is a simple and effective way of ensuring you feel great at all times, especially if you’ve got a particularly active lifestyle.

One of the main risks associated with the conventional three-meal day is blood sugar dropping after a few hours without food. While it may not sound too major, feeling hungry alongside low blood sugar can lead to the urge to overeat, which can make it difficult to keep to a certain calorie intake, such as if you’re on a low-calorie diet, for example.

More smaller meals throughout the day rather than few large meals can help keep hunger pangs at bay. It also means that you can tailor each meal of the day so that you end up with a better balance of vitamin and nutrients each day. Adding small snacks to your routine, such as snack bars or fruit, can also help keep you going throughout the day. Simple changes and additions to a daily routine like these can really help make a change in your lifestyle and leave you feeling great day in, day out.
